Nancy Jo Wallis Poirrier received her BS and ME degrees from LSU. Her major fields were fine arts education, English and Drama. After 40 years of teaching art to all ages, she is concentrating on painting. Nancy's medium of choice is primarily oils; however, work in mixed media and acrylics are created from time to time. Her style of painting is a contemporary slant to familiar persons, places and things.
Nancy's work hangs in homes from coast to coast and has been exhibited locally in Louisiana Public Broadcasting Art and Travel Show, The Glassell Gallery of the Shaw Center, The Louisiana Art and Artist Guild and several other local galleries. She has received several awards from competitions at these and other settings.
She states, "I cannot recall a time when I did not have the desire to create...my major professor, Caroline Dureaux, had a strong effect on my thinking about making art. Such artists as Wayne Thiebaud, Janet Fish, Edward Hopper and J.M.W. Turner have also influenced my painting style. I will never finish being a student of my craft. Like Matisse, I hope to be drawing and painting even when I am in a wheel chair or flat on my back - aging while creating. I would love to breathe my last breath in the studio making art."
